With great sadness, we announce that Mr. Ryuichi Ishida, honorary chairman of Ishida Co., Ltd. Japan, passed away on Saturday, January 18th, 2020, in Kyoto, Japan, due to severe complications from his recent illness. He was 82 years old. The entire Ishida family and all associates mourn his passing.
In 1960, Mr. Ishida joined Ishida, founded in 1893 by his great-grandfather, and in 1967, he became the fourth generation of the Ishida family to ascend to the position of President of Ishida. Throughout his 42 year presidency, Mr. Ishida epitomized the company’s 3-Way Harmony philosophy; pursue good for customers, society, and company. Mr. Ishida was a pioneer within the weighing and packaging industries and in 1972 was the innovator of the world’s first computer combination weigher. Under his leadership, he expanded Ishida’s global reach to more than 105 countries. Mr. Ishida was also the recipient of the SNAC International prestigious Circle of Honor award in 1998, highlighting his numerous innovations and impact on the global snack food industry. In 2010, Mr. Ishida became the chairman as his son, Takahide Ishida, was named the fifth President of Ishida’s global operations. Upon his retirement in 2014, Mr. Ryuichi Ishida was named Honorary Chairman.
