Position Summary

The Application Engineer (AE) is an integral member of the Coating & Conveying sales team and coordinates all pre-sales activity to include conceptual layout development, estimating, and quoting. The AE will work closely with one or more Regional Sales Managers as a technical resource throughout the sales process.


Job Responsibilities Include

The Application Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Gather the required information for each project by interfacing with the Regional Sales Manager and/or customer
  • Develop a system concept and create a conceptual layout drawing (CLD) of the proposed system
  • Generate pricing for equipment utilizing internal pricing tools and soliciting bids from outside vendors
  • Generate a proposal to present to the customer
  • Revise the drawing, pricing, and/or proposal as needed
  • Work with engineering and manufacturing to establish a delivery schedule
  • Prepare sold projects for handoff to the Project Management team
  • Interface and coordinate with many different groups, to include: 
    • Project Engineers when establishing system layouts
    • Production Engineers when developing schedules
    • Development Engineers when discussing the application of new design concepts
    • Other AEs when collaborating and sharing information on current and past projects
    • Sales personnel from the Processing and Packaging teams when coordinating overall system proposals
    • Project Managers to help answer questions during the manufacturing and installation phases
  • Proficiently utilize software programs to include:
    • AutoCAD LT to create conceptual layout drawings
    • Salesforce and BigMachines to generate pricing and proposals
    • SAP to enter order information and research historical data
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Required Education and Experience

  • 2-year Associates of Applied Science degree in an engineering-related field, or
    4-year Bachelor degree in engineering or engineering-related field
  • Skilled in AutoCAD, with the experience to produce 2-dimensional drawings
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Travel 15-20% (approximately one to two trips per month)
  • Effectively communicate with diverse individuals and groups, both internal and external
  • Identify opportunities and propose ideas for improving our processes
  • Prior experience with SAP, Salesforce and/or BigMachines software
  • Multilingual (Spanish, French, or any other) preferred
