"In today's work environment companies make many promises. A great deal of promises are made, but most have a difficult time keeping those promises. Heat and Control is not one of those companies. ...It is quite refreshing to know that you will get what was promised, when it was promised. That is how I run my business, and what I expect from the people who supply me. Delivered as promised, no surprises, you cannot ask for more!"

Pattie packaging is no puzzle for Lopez Foods

Lopez Foods Collage Very fragile product, and extreme space limitations where inches of access would determine the success of sanitation, maintenance and production functions, raised many concerns when Lopez Foods decided to expand packaging capabilities at their Oklahoma City, OK plant.

But with equipment from Heat and Control, and the experience of its sales, engineering and project management team, "Each piece of the puzzle fit perfectly," according to Lopez Foods Plant Manager Rich Garofolo, "and we completed the installation days early - unprecedented for the size and scope of the project!"

"The equipment met all of our expectations," says Garofolo, "and continues to perform exceptionally well, 17 hours per day and six days per week. And after all our discussions regarding product breakage, I am glad to tell you that it is a non-issue!"

Lopez Foods' two new lines produce 12 pound packages of frozen pre-cooked sausage patties at 1,300 bags per hour. Each line features FastBack conveyors and a SwitchBack product accumulation system that deliver patties to an Ishida 14-head large capacity waterproof weigher. Support platforms for the weighers and product handling equipment are designed to AMI specification and incorporate Heat and Control's unique "Rapid Deployment" construction to reduce installation costs and expedite production start-up. "Heat and Control proposed several alternative designs that would accomplish our objectives, Garofolo explains. "Throughout the process, their quick response and turnaround time on drawings helped us keep the project on schedule."

Based on the success of this system, Lopez Foods has installed a similar line at their Caryville, TN plant.

Double production with twin-tube packaging

IshidaIshida's Atlas 122C Twin Bagmakers and CCW-R multihead weigherAn Ishida twin-tube system from Heat and Control can increase output and add flexibility to your snack food packaging line. One multihead weigher feeding two bagmakers requires little more floor space than a single-tube line, but offers several advantages that can improve productivity and efficiency. On the same line at the same time you can:
  • Double production by running the same product, bag weight and bag size through both bagmakers.
  • Run the same product in two different bag weights and bag sizes, allowing production to meet changing inventory needs.
  • Run two different products in the same or different bag sizes, maximizing your production options.
Whether it's a high-speed CCW-R weigher with Atlas bagmakers, or an economical CCW-RS with Astro bagmakers for slower speeds, we have a system to meet all your needs.

New metal detecting checkweigher

IshidaCombo CEIA metal detector and Ishida CheckweigherA CEIA metal detector integrated with an Ishida checkweigher provides superior product inspection in a compact, easy-to-clean design. Our CEIA/DACS combo systems:
  • Reliably detect magnetic and non-magnetic metal contaminants, including stainless steel, to promote product safety.
  • Accurately verify product weight or count, eliminating underweights and protecting profits by eliminating costly giveaway.
  • Remove product from the line with a common rejector that's activated whenever metal contaminants or unacceptable weights are identified.
  • Require minimum floor space, with both systems supported by a single open framework that simplifies sanitation procedures.

Get Processing Efficiency That Is Sustainable!

We're helping food processors reduce the environmental impact of their manufacturing with cooking equipment that protects air quality, conserves water, and reduces energy use. To us, sustainable manufacturing is efficient manufacturing!

Increase Energy Efficiency
Combustion Air Pre-Heater
Combustion Air Pre-Heater
KleenHeat Heat Exchanger
KleenHeat Heat Exchanger

When high-temperature air is introduced into a burner, less fuel is required for combustion. Our Combustion Air Pre-Heater utilizes normally wasted exhaust heat to reduce the energy usage and increase the fuel efficiency of our horizontal, coil-type and KleenHeat heat exchangers. Additional modules can be added to further increase the overall process efficiency by preheating make-up cooking oil, air and water. And here's more good news: Combustion Air Pre-Heaters can be retrofitted to many existing Heat and Control KleenHeat and horizontal heat exchangers to boost their energy efficiency.

Save Water With Gentle Wash
Reduce fresh water usage up to 80% over conventional systems with our Gentle Wash Potato Slice Washer. The system thoroughly removes starch from potato slices with a unique 3-stage process that also cleans and reuses wash water. It then spreads slices uniformly across the drain conveyor for more efficient dewatering and feed into the fryer. By using less fresh water and concentrating starch and fines for more efficient removal, Gentle Wash reduces sewer loading and the burden on a starch recovery system.

KleenHeat® Eliminates Pollutants
As our high-efficiency KleenHeat Heat Exchanger heats the cooking oil, it also incinerates and removes virtually all odors, oil and other particulates exhausted from the fryer stack that would normally pollute the air and area around your plant. Regulatory agencies worldwide recognize KleenHeat's pollution control method as the "Best Available Control Technology" (BACT) and increasingly require this equipment for new and upgraded fryer lines. As an added bonus, our latest graduated density oil heating tube bundle provides 10% greater thermal efficiency than existing models - far exceeding the performance of heat exchangers that do not remove pollutants!

These Sustainable Solutions are available right now!
Innovative solutions from Heat and Control are available for installation now to support your sustainable strategies:
  • Booster Heater
Increases efficiency of horizontal and coil type heat exchangers up to 10%.
  • AirSweep/AirKnife
Removes surface water on potato chip slices before frying, reducing fryer fuel usage by up to 8%.
  • Stack Heat Recovery System
Recovers millions of BTUs of heat from fryer stack by condensing steam to make hot water for sanitation, blanching, boiler feed water, or even building heat.
  • Burner Management System
Increases efficiency of any type heat exchanger by 2 to 4% by maintaining precise fuel-to-air ratio through the full firing range of the burner.
  • Combustion Air Preheat System
Increases heat exchanger efficiency by 2 to 4% by preheating the combustion air.
  • KleenHeat Heat Exchanger
Incinerates fryer exhaust pollution as it heats the fryer's cooking oil, providing pollution control without any additional energy usage such as afterburners.
  • Alternate Fuel Systems
Reduces energy costs by using less costly methane or other gas from landfills, digesters, or other sources.
  • Gentle Wash Potato Slice Washer
Reduces fresh water consumption by cleaning and recycling the wash water.

Ishida weigher training class with sign language interpreter
Recently, maintenance team members from Ryt-Way Foods in Lakeville, MN, including one hearing-impaired employee, attended Ishida weigher training classes in our Lititz, PA office. In preparation for their visit, we familiarized a sign-language interpreter with the operation of the weigher so she could better translate the terminology and procedures for the trainee.
Training operators and mechanics to run your equipment safely and at its highest level of efficiency is a sure-fire way to build your business.

Heat and Control training programs improve productivity and profitability by teaching the skills and building the confidence your production teams need to run the line faster, identify problems better, and initiate effective solutions quicker.

Reduced downtime, fewer service calls, and higher production efficiency all contribute to a lower cost of machine ownership, so it's no surprise that businesses are placing greater emphasis on training services when selecting a machinery supplier.
